May 9th 2016 meeting

As you may remember we were going to go see some members sewing rooms.  First here is show and tell....I am not sure who's quilt this is...let me know if it's yours and I will add your name...it's beautiful!!

We had a few Blocks of the Month (BOM)

We went to Beverly's home and Cathy's, and Sue W, and ended at Donna Dyers for lunch.  Thanks to Donna for hosting lunch and for Bonnie Davis and Betty Prescott for making lunch.  A good time was had by all.

We will be holding Quilt Guild meetings all summer, so the next one will be June 13th at 11 am at the Library.

For the Block of the Month we will be doing a version of a Hunter Star Block.
We will make 16 - 3 inch half square triangles.
Here are the directions:

1. cut 2   7 3/4 inch background fabrics and 2  7 3/4 inch focus fabrics (remember how we did the math in April? Check out the link below)
2. place 1 background square and 1 focus square right sides together

mark them with diagonal lines and from top to bottom and across the middle.  these will be your cutting lines.  stitch 1/4 inch away from the diagonal lines.  In the picture below the red lines are your cutting lines and the blue lines are your stitching lines.  Repeat with the other two pieces of fabric.
Each block will make 8 half square triangles.  Super fast and easy!!
( if you need a tutorial here is a link....

After cutting on the red lines press your blocks .  Always press to the darker material.  Then you can lay them out in this order.

You can switch them up if you like and come up with a new block.  If you lay them out as pictured above.  You will end up with a block looking like this...

Don't you just love the simplicity of it?  Yet it looks so complicated.  Try some out and bring it  for show and tell in June...If you have questions give one of us a call..  Susan P  435-253-2249,  Cathy 743-5886, or Sue W  801-541-3894....

See you in June...
