Service Project

Flower Basket Block of the Month
Suzanne Harmon had two blocks this month. She also gave us the pattern for a star. Because the blocks and the stars are cut on the bias, she reminded us to use plenty of starch on the fabric when sewing to stabilize them and minimize stretching.
She also showed us one panel of the quilt. It is so charming. It will be fun to see the finished quilts. You can see how cute the quilt is going to be.
To see a picture of the finished quilt, go to laundrybasketquilts.com. Search for the pattern, "Anna's Baskets Farmers Daughter." It is charming.
Here are some of the blocks that were made from last month's pattern. They are turning out to be delightful.
Tips, Tricks, and Techniques
This month, we talked about quilting with non-traditional cottons.
Karen Jordan gave an overview of fabrics that could be used. She also passed around samples of these fabrics.
Tafta Watson continued the discussion of non-typical quilting fabrics. She showed a Foundation Paper Piecing pattern and explained how the paper becomes the stabilizer for knit fabrics in FPP.
She also displayed a polyester knit quilt that her mother-in-law made for their family more than 30 years ago. Polyester knit wears and wears. This quit has snuggled many people for many years. It is a durable alternative to a cotton quilt.
As requested, Tafta demonstrated one way to make a t-shirt quilt. She explained choosing, interfacing, cutting, sewing and other topics for making a t-shirt quilt.
She displayed a quilt she was making for her granddaughter. This type of t-shirt quilt uses sashings and cornerstones. Other types have all the t-shirts together. Both kinds are fun.
We had many beautiful projects shared at our show and share.
Ellen Harmon finished and quilted her quilt top. It looks very nice.
Ellen also displayed these cute bowls, along with some coasters that she has made. They are so cute, just right for storing treasures. Great job, Ellen.
Karen Jordan made this king-sized Labyrinth quilt for her daughter. It was a labor of love.
Denise Rohboch made this beautiful quilt for a dear friend who is battling cancer. What a lucky lady to have Denise for a friend.
Tafta Watson finished this quilt top for a grandson who loves patriotism.
Chris Ann Jensen has been busy. Here is a delightful quilt she finished. I love her yellow border. It looks so bright and happy.
Chris Ann and Beverly Veale made these large, useful, and beautiful bags. They are large enough to hold a quilt. Well done, talented ladies.
Jodi Beck displayed two quilts. This is a quilt she finished. Look at the colorful, happy colors. It is beautiful.
She brought a T-shirt quilt that she made for her son who graduated this year. She used a special program to help her create the pattern. She has done a beautiful job with this T-shirt memory quilt.
Shelli Richardson displayed two table runners. They are so delightful. They will add to any kitchen or room in which they are displayed.
She also displayed a quilt she made for her daughter, who is a book lover. The flowers add a beautiful unique touch. I think this will be a perfect quilt to curl up in while she reads another good book.
Valene Penney brought a bag she had made that had some fabric with bee's wax. This helps to keep bread fresh when in the bag. Valene is so clever. She is always making something unusual, but useful.
Valene and her sister, Janet, made these stunning quilts. Valene not only pieces her quilts, but she also quilts them. It is lovely, as usual.
